International Mother Language Day was observed with great enthusiasm on 20th February 2026 at PPG College of Education. The programme was organized by the Tamil Club with the objective of promoting awareness about the importance of preserving and promoting mother languages, particularly Tamil.
The celebration commenced with the traditional Tamil Thai Vazhthu, invoking respect for the richness and heritage of the Tamil language. The programme was presided over by the Principal and faculty members of the college. And B.Ed. students actively participated in the event.
The highlight of the programme was the special lecture delivered by Dr. Chandra Kala, Head of the Department of Tamil, PPG College of Arts and Science, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She delivered an enlightening lecture on the topic “Alagu Tamil Arivom” .
In her address, Dr. Chandra Kala emphasized the historical significance, literary richness, and classical status of the Tamil language. She explained how Tamil is one of the oldest living classical languages in the world with a vast treasure of Sangam literature, ethical works like Thirukkural, and devotional literature. She encouraged students to develop pride in their mother tongue and to use Tamil effectively in both academic and daily life contexts.The programme created awareness about linguistic identity and cultural heritage among the participants. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Tamil Club Coordinator, Mrs.K.Mahesh Priya expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, Principal, faculty members, and students for making the programme a grand success. The celebration of International Mother Language Day was meaningful and inspiring, reinforcing the value of Tamil language and culture in education and society.
